Tidecraft Ceramics

A new identity and online shop for a two-kiln pottery on the coast, built so the potter can list a new glaze herself in minutes.

The brief

Mara Lindqvist throws every piece at Tidecraft by hand and fires two kilns a month. She was selling through a marketplace that made her pots look like everyone else's, and every new batch meant an evening of fiddly listings. She wanted a shop of her own that felt like the studio and did not need a developer to update.

What we did

We spent a firing day in the studio before drawing anything. The mark came from the view out of the studio window: a single wave inside a circle, simple enough to press into the foot of a pot with a stamp.

  • Colour from the glaze shelf. Shale, Harbor, Sea glass, Fired clay and Oat are real glazes. The site uses the same names, so customers learn them.
  • A shop that flows like a kiln opening. New work goes live as a batch, with a short kiln diary entry that explains what came out and why.
  • Editing she can do alone. Adding a product is a photo, a name, a glaze and a price. We tested it by watching Mara list a full batch without us in the room.

Outcome

Tidecraft left the marketplace in May. Kiln openings now go out to a mailing list of people who bought directly, and the stamp on the base of each pot matches the mark on the box it ships in.
